The students of University of Sheffield have access the the sheffiled muse which is a secure access to the online school resources from any part of the world. It works through an online collaboration joining people into groups, thus the sheffiled muse is a essential tool for traveling and staying connected. There are several applications that are used on this online facility they include; a webmail, my Filestore, library resources, goggle calendar and corporate information systems. The webmail application is used to access emails from off-campus y staff and research postgraduates. It is easy webmail as one clicks in the myEmail icon on the website. The webmail mail consists of inbox, other useful folders, a way of composing and sending messages way of setting up distribution list and message filters. MyFilestore application is used to access files from personal U drive and from students department on the shared M drive; one can also upload or download files. The library eResource n gives reading resources on a 24/7 basis with on & off campus access using the university of sheffield muse portal, however, one has to be registered to use the portal. it is also easy to use this portfolio as it is secured and has personalized access to the Library's resources despite the location of the user. MyCalendar application also a Google application helps in to setup own meetings, teaching timetables and also one can create his/her own external calendar. One can also invite guests to meetings, book a room for the meeting, defining groups, attaching paper to meetings, displaying group calendars and so many other advantages. The Corporate Information Systems gives information to students and staff regarding the administrative functions of students admissions and registration and others, under this application there are also business applications that include the uBase,my Job,myPurchase and eRecruitment.There are videos and tutorials that illustrate how to the applications As most if the activities on this site are use groups there are ways of managing a MUSE group i.e. creating a new group, adding new members automatically, adding members manually, delegating permissions and creating subgroups. Other features include using the groups which includes; how to access groups, join groups, uploading files and pictures, posting news and announcements and reviewing members.
Once logged onto to the portfolio and creating an account that requires the school registration number and a password, one is directed on how to use the portal. This includes tutorials on adding channels or applications, adding columns, the supported Web browsers and incase there is a problem logging in there is assistance on the server. |
